National Asian American Heritage Month
May is the National Asian American Heritage Month.
On Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Baker Park in downtown Frederick, the Asian American Center of Frederick in collaboration with the Governor’s Commission on Asian American Affairs will offer an exciting array of programs & activities to celebrate the Asian American Heritage Month.
The Asian American Heritage Month Celebration aims to commemorate the rich and diverse heritage and contributions of Maryland’s Asian American communities. The event is open to the public and all are welcome.
The keynote speaker, Edward Chow, Jr., Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs, will kickoff the events at 1 p.m. followed by an Asian American performing arts showcase including musical performances, dances, as well as martial arts and Tai Chi. There will also be children’s activities offered including kite making and flying; as well as card making for Mother’s Day (the next day). Vendors will also offer a variety of Asian foods and merchandises.
